Rice Paddies in China

China is the oldest and largest civilization of the world, and consequently, it is home of many millenary traditions that are still alive. Rice cultivation is one of those traditions that has been resisted over history.
Southern climate and topography of China can provide an ideal environment for cultivation of rice.
The association between the amount of rainfall, that can reach up to 2000 mm per year, and the floodplains found in the southern chinese region makes of China the world's largest producer of rice. China is responsible for over a quarter of all global rice cultivation.
In order to grow the plant, the Chinese farmers build amazing artificial landscapes, the paddy fields. Using the animal's help, they plow the land to build thousands of stacked terraces on the hills, making every single flooded piece of arable land worth for rice cultivarion.
Rice production is the main agricultural activity that is responsible for moving the Chinese economy in the south of the country.
